Veterinary Technology Program

VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY ADMISSION CHECKLIST

To be admitted to the VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY DEGREE PROGRAM, please complete the following steps:

Step 1   Attend a required informational meeting about the Veterinary Technology Program held the first Wednesday of every month from 4-5 pm on the Larimer Campus in the Mount Antero building in the conference room.

Step 2   Meet with a college advisor.  Apply for admission to Front Range Community College and obtain a student number and PIN. Please see college catalog and schedule for instructions.  Information can be found at  http://www.frontrange.edu/ProspectiveStudents.aspx, http://www.frontrange.edu/FRCCTemplates/FRCC1.aspx?id=100, at the main information desk in the Mount Antero building, or call Marla Manchego in the Advising Office at (970) 204-8333.

Step 3   Complete and submit the Intent to Enroll form which you will receive at the monthly information meeting. (Admission into the vet tech program is a separate step from admission to the college.) You MUST attach documentation to this form! Students entering the Vet Tech program must provide documentation of a high school diploma or GED.

Step 4   Complete required prerequisite courses:

BIO 111    General College Biology with lab (5 credits) Must be taken within 7 years of entering the VET program.

ENG 131 Technical Writing or ENG 121 College Composition (3 credits)

HPR 178   Medical Terminology (2 credits)

These courses must be completed before you can begin any VET prefix classes.

Step 5       Take your other general education courses. While they are scheduled into the veterinary program, it is recommended that you take as many of your general education credits as you can, before you begin the VET prefix courses. These are the requirements:

Arts/Humanities or Social Science Elective (3credits).

MAT 107 Career Math or a college level math course approved by the program (3 credits). Must be completed before you can enroll in Parmacology or Diagnostic Imaging second semester.

COM 125 Interpersonal Communication or COM 115 Public Speaking (3 credits)

While CHE 101 (Introduction to Chemistry I) is no longer required for a VET A.A.S. degree, this course or CHE 100 (Chemistry in Context) are highly recommended for students with little or no current knowledge of chemistry.  It is also recommended that students have computer competence.

Twenty-four new students are admitted to the program each spring and fall semester. Because there is sometimes a waiting list, it is a good idea to begin your application one semester before you would like to enroll. You may not enroll in any VET prefix courses until all prerequisites are complete AND you have received enrollment instructions from the VET Program.

If you have any questions regarding VET program information or admission into the program contact Marti Morgan, CVT at marti.morgan@frontrange.edu or (970) 204-8187. You can also contact Dr. Elizabeth Bauer (program director) at Elizabeth.Bauer@frontrange.edu, (970) 204-8166, or the campus Advising Office at (970) 204-8305.
